State Center Community College District Faculty Union Endorses
Challengers for SCCCD Board Races in November General Election
Fresno, CA- On this Labor Day, the State Center Federation of Teachers (SCFT), Local 1533 are
proud to announce their support for the following candidates in the upcoming State Center
Community College District (SCCCD) Board races:
• Nasreen Johnson in SCCCD Trustee Area 2
• Dary Rezvani in SCCCD Trustee Area 3
• Sally Fowler in SCCCD Trustee Area 6
SCFT does not plan to make an endorsement in Trustee Area 7 at this time.
“We are backing an impressive group of candidates who truly have the best interest of our SCCCD students and faculty at heart,” said Keith Ford, President of SCFT. “These candidates rose to the top in a very competitive endorsement process to earn the support of our faculty.”
The SCFT Executive Council believes it is time to take the SCCCD Board of Trustees in a new
direction and is confident that the endorsed candidates will serve the District well. The Executive
Council is made up of faculty representatives elected by their peers, both throughout the District atlarge as well as regionally at each campus. “Our community colleges touch so many families here locally,” said Mr. Ford. “It is imperative that we have the right people at the helm when it comes to our District and serving those families.”
The State Center Federation of Teachers (SCFT), Local 1533 represents over 1,800 full-time and
part-time faculty & counselors across SCCCD. Its members serve our Central Valley communities
as the backbone of Fresno City College, Reedley College, Clovis Community College, Madera
Community College, and the Oakhurst Community College Center. SCFT members believe in
cultivating the potential of their students and that a good education is at the heart of a good society. They hold a strong belief that educating students is a craft requiring talented and dedicated
professionals. SCFT Local 1533 is an affiliate of the statewide California Federation of Teachers
(CFT), and in turn the nationwide American Federation of Teachers (AFT).
