Below is a quick reference guide for some of our most frequently asked contract questions. Find the complete Part-time contract on our Contracts & MOU's page. ARTICLE:  XIV LEAVES WITH PAY

  • 18 hours of teaching= 1 hr. sick leave earned in fall, spring, and summer terms.

  • Can be used for: illness, pregnancy, miscarriage, childbirth, and recovery there-from, purposes of parental leave, quarantine by the County Health Officer, personal necessity , death of a family member, property damage/potential property damage.

ARTICLE:  XII EVALUTION OF FACULTY

  • Evaluations occur during the first, second, possible 3rd semester, and once every 6 semesters thereafter.

  • Instructional-Visitation dates and times shall take place between weeks six (6) and thirteen (13) scheduled within a three (3) week window announced to the unit member.

  • Student questionnaires are administered (no earlier than week six (6) and no later than week fourteen (14)


ARTICLE:  XIII PERSONNEL RECORDS

  • Every unit member shall have the right to inspect material in his/her personnel file at any time mutually convenient to the employee and the District.

 

ARTICLE:  XI - C HOURS, WORKLOAD, CLASS SIZE

  • To qualify, unit member must teach at least five (5) lecture hour equivalents (see PT contract for additional criteria)

  • If selected, members may be compensated for up to 12 office hours per year at $30 an hour. In contract year 2020-21, office hours will increase to 14 hrs./yr.

  • Part-time unit members who are interested must complete the appropriate request form by Friday of the first week of each semester. This form must be submitted to the Office of the Vice President of Instruction.

*Note: SCFT has negotiated and extension on paid office hours for the 2021-2022 academic year (F 2021 &SP 2022) additionally qualifying all adjuncts regardless of how many units they are teaching. Office hours will be documented on a time sheet or "green sheet" and submitted to your Dean for payment at the end of the semester.

ARTICLE:  XI - C HOURS, WORKLOAD, CLASS SIZE

  • “Comparable Assignment” shall be defined to be as close as possible to a unit member’s average load over the previous three (3) like semesters (fall to fall or spring to spring) in which the unit member had load, not including summer

  • The top two (2) highest ranked of all current unit members, based on the recommendation of the screening committee, shall be invited to interview for a full-time faculty vacancy that is not filled through the transfer process.

ARTICLE: XVI COMPENSATION

  • STEP ADVANCEMENT

Step advancement shall occur at the beginning of the academic year conditioned upon the part-time unit member having taught and completed four (4) semesters of work on the same step. The semesters need not be consecutive.

  • CLASS ADVANCEMENT

A unit member anticipating a change in class placement must file a "Letter of Intent” by the deadline established in the notice distributed by the District Human Resources Office at the beginning of each fall and spring semester. As proof of completion, official transcripts or other written supporting evidence must be submitted to the District Human Resources Office by the stated deadline.

  • Orientation/Training – Unit members attending orientation and training will be paid twenty five dollars ($25) per hour.

  • Special Projects – Faculty performing extra duties during unassigned times or completing a special project (mutually agreed upon by the unit member and management) will be paid at the unit member’s Schedule C2 lab rate per hour worked and submitted on the appropriate timesheet.

  • If a part-time unit member is asked to complete a program review report, after completion and submission of the report to the Dean, the unit member will be paid up to ten (10) hours at the unit member’s Schedule C2 lab rate.

  • Office Hour – Part-time unit members approved for office hours will be paid thirty dollars ($30) per hour (see Article XI-C, Section 5).

More importantly, with negotiations on the horizon, we'll need a strong and engaged membership to make significant progress on wages, hours, and working conditions. We can't do it alone! The foundation of our strength is in our membership  numbers. From there, we build our capacity by growing new union leaders to engage and mobilize our colleagues and community.

*SCFT has been able to maintain low-cost dues for our part-time members who pay a flat membership fee of $16.57 only during the months which they are employed.

Reporting COVID-19 Positive Students

Attention Members! You are only required to take attendance, report if a student has COVID symptoms, and report students attending an onsite class who are not compliant with the vaccine mandate to your department dean. Any additional requests from your department in regard to tracking and reporting COVID cases should be brought to the attention of your campus Member Rights officer. 


Remote Learning Accommodations for Students

Remote learning accommodations for students who are unable to attend in-person classes will be allowed at the discretion of the instructor. 


Access to KN95 Masks
01/07/2022

All faculty teaching in-person classes will be provided KN95 masks by the district.
